ev.energy Charge & Earn - Programme Terms

These are the specific rules for the GB Charge and Earn programme ("the Programme"). They sit alongside, and don't replace, our Driver Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, which continue to apply to your account, your data, and how we handle liability generally. By enrolling, you agree to these Programme terms as well.

1. Joining the Programme

To take part, you need:

  • To own, control, and connect a compatible electric vehicle (EV) or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) that features on the standard Great Britain (GB) eligible hardware list.
  • A registered home charging address in Great Britain
  • Your current home energy supplier and tariff, provided accurately when you register
  • A working smart meter at that address

We'll check your address and hardware eligibility automatically when you register.

2. Staying Eligible

  • Eligible sessions: a session counts if it delivers at least 7 kWh and is smart-managed by ev.energy. You can earn up to one eligible session a day, capped at 31 a month.
  • Excluded tariffs: you can't take part if your supplier directly controls your vehicle's charging under one of these tariffs: Intelligent Octopus Go, Octopus Intelligent Drive Pack, Ovo Charge Anytime, E.on Next Drive Smart, Scottish Power EV Optimise, British Gas Free Charge.
  • One scheme at a time: your vehicle and charger can only be enrolled in this Programme while they're not also registered with another flexibility, demand-response, or smart-charging rewards scheme, whether through us, your supplier, or anyone else. If you join another scheme, or were already on one, it may affect your eligibility here, and we're not responsible for anything you lose from that other scheme as a result.
  • Smart management required: staying in the Programme depends on us being able to smart-manage your charging. If that stops working, our Driver Terms explain how we handle account and programme access generally.

3. How Your Payout Is Calculated

Each month, we set aside a share of the revenue we earn from Grid Services trading and split it across everyone taking part, based on eligible sessions completed that month. Your payout is your eligible session count multiplied by that month's per-session rate.

That rate isn't fixed in advance. It depends on actual market performance and how many sessions everyone completed that month, so it moves with real market conditions rather than just your own behaviour. The only thing you control is how many eligible sessions you complete, up to the monthly cap of 31.

4. When You Get Paid

Your rate depends on real market outcomes, which take time to finalise, so you may not get paid until up to two months after the month you earned it in. You will get paid through the PayPal account details you have added in the app.

5. Your Data

Running this Programme means sharing some of your data with grid and market bodies, including Elexon, the relevant Distribution System Operator, and NESO, as well as our trading partner. How and when we do this, and how we keep it aggregated or anonymised where we can, is covered in our Privacy Policy (see "Participation in Energy Markets"), which applies in full to the Programme.

We also need to retrieve information about you from these databases to trade your flexibility:

  • The Electricity Enquiry Service
  • Flexibility Market Asset Register
  • Smart Data Repository

6. Everything Else

Liability, hardware, and what happens if something goes wrong are covered by our Driver Terms. Two things specific to this Programme:

  • If your payout is affected by matters outside our control, market conditions, grid operator decisions, or hardware and connectivity problems, we're not liable for that, in the same way the Driver Terms already say for the wider Service.
  • Loss of anticipated earnings is included as one of the indirect losses we don't cover, consistent with how the Driver Terms treat indirect losses generally.
